How Does ScarAway work to prevent or minimize scarring?

ScarAway uses patented Silon® technology, a specially formulated Silicone, that mimics the natural barrier function of healthy skin. Research suggests that Silon acts to hydrate scar tissue, which in turn works to soften the scar by breaking down excess collagen, reducing its development and causing it to fade away faster. ScarAway also protects your delicate scar area and helps relieve the itching, burning and pain that often accompany scars.

Can I use ScarAway on my old (existing scar)?

Yes!  ScarAway works on scars both old and new to soften, fade, reduce and smooth out your scar so it appears closer to your skin’s natural color and texture.  ScarAway is even effective on scars that are years old

When should I begin using ScarAway?

For newly healed wounds, you may begin using ScarAway as soon as the skin is healed and there is no oozing or crusting at the site.  Treatment with ScarAway for post surgical wounds may typically begin approximately 1-2 weeks after stitches are removed or when cleared by your physician or surgeon for use.  For existing scars, you may begin using ScarAway right away, provided your skin is fully healed. For existing scars, you may begin using ScarAway right away, provided your skin is fully healed.

What types of scars does ScarAway work on?

ScarAway works on hypertrophic scars and keloids, which have a raised and discolored appearance. These types of scars may result from surgical procedures, skin injuries and burns.

How long should I wear each sheet?

Each ScarAway sheet should be worn a minimum of 12 and up to 23 hours per day. Each sheet should be worn for 7 days.

What is the difference between a hypertrophic scar and a keloid?

Hypertrophic scars and keloids are raised, thickened, discolored scars that are typically stiffer than the surrounding skin. Hypertrophic scars remain within the boundaries of the original injury, while Keloids extend beyond the original injury site, involving the surrounding skin.  Both types of scars are often tender, itchy, and even painful. Left untreated, keloids can continue to grow quite large.

Can I use ScarAway on any part of my body?

Yes, when used as directed, ScarAway silicone sheets can be used on any part of the body.

Can ScarAway be used on scars of different sizes and shapes?

Yes, ScarAway can be used for many different sizes and shapes of scars. ScarAway comes in 2 convenient sizes (1.5 x 3" and 1.5 x 7"). Additionally, ScarAway sheets may be trimmed to size for smaller scars or worn side-by-side for larger scars. ScarAway should extend beyond the scarred area on all sides.

How long will it take before I notice improvement?

A softening of the scar may occur in just few days. Improvement in scar color and thickness may be seen in as little as 4 weeks and will improve gradually over the treatment period. Best results can be achieved by preventing excessive scar formation in the first place. By using ScarAway immediately after your wound has healed, you will maximize your opportunity for optimal results.
